Today Portland Outdoors announced that a pair of Fulcrum Clapskates™ from Okolo Sports Technologies and Van Horne Footwear stock/custom speedskating boots will be awarded to the winners of both men and women of the second International Big Rideau Lake Speed Skating Marathon January 29, 2005.
The combined package has a retail value of approximately $ 1,500 US each, and will likely be one of the largest prizes in the North American marathon skating circuit. "A prize like this will bring skaters from near and far to the race," said Marco Smits, founder of the Big Rideau Lake Speed Skating Marathon. "It is worth it for skater to come out and compete for such a large prize, but the competition will be very stiff for just that reason. It should result in a great race in January," said Smits.
The Fulcrum Clapskate™, designed by Okolo Sports Technologies, is one of the first clapskates to come out of the USA. It has received rave reviews during testing at the Salt Lake City Oval by US national team members. Also, both Okolo Sports Technologies, as well as Van Horne Footwear are sponsors of the Dutch Viks Parket Marathon Team.
